Me at the Zoo
Not me, but a superb fruit dove perching contentedly at Bristol Zoo Project.
A blustery winter’s day brought me to the latest incarnation of Bristol's renowned zoological gardens: Bristol Zoo Project.
Their previous Clifton site was walkable from town, and full of wondrous, well-cared-for animals. I explored it in my youth for a biology project, researching western lowland gorillas. It was quaint.
The new grounds are much more expansive, giving visitors time to breathe between habitats. Their breadth accommodates the existing animals even better, and has room for a wider variety of them. I saw the likes of cheetahs roaming a vast enclosure; gangly giraffes grazing on straw; and exotic birds — like the superb fruit dove above — in a sweltering tropical house.
The photos below are only a small taste of the zoo’s menagerie of animals. Both the bears and gorillas eluded me. Stay tuned for my next visit.
